Veneers

Restore confidence in your smile

If you have cracked or chipped teeth, whose appearance you’d like to improve, so you don’t have to feel embarrassed when you open your mouth, veneers are the solution. A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain, or composite resin, which is bonded to the front of the damaged tooth. It will both protect your tooth from further damage and give you a more flattering smile.

Veneers are also useful for closing small gaps in your teeth. Your veneer will be custom fitted, unique to you and very discreet. People who see your veneer are unlikely to realise your tooth isn’t entirely natural.

A small amount of enamel may be removed from the tooth to ensure that your veneer will fit well. An impression will then be taken of your tooth and sent to the lab in order to have the veneer created.

Once the veneer is sent back to us here at Downhouse Dental, we will bond your veneer to your tooth. Your smile will be enhanced and your damaged tooth will be protected.

FAQs

Everything you need to know

Why do I need a veneer?

Veneers are used to correct worn enamel, uneven tooth alignment and spacing issues. Discoloured teeth, chipped and cracked teeth will also benefit from a veneer and prevent the need for a crown.

Will it hurt?

We practice painfree dentistry and so will do everything we can to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the treatment.

What does having a veneer involve?

Your teeth will be filed and shaped to receive the veneer. Impressions will be made and temporary veneers fitted while your permanent veneer is made in the lab. When your permanent veneer is sent back to your dentist, another appointment will be made to have it bonded to your teeth with resin cement.

How long does it take to have a veneer fitted?

Every veneer is different, but it is possible to have a veneer fitted within two or three weeks.

Can veneers harm your teeth?

Usually no more than half a millimetre is removed from the tooth enamel. This is not enough to endanger your teeth. One of the primary functions of veneers is to protect teeth, which are damaged.
